exit adulthood

July 23, 2017

The record is done, just getting all the art work sorted.  I haven’t figured out a title much beyond “Exit” but maybe that’s enough.   My aim was to only have male singers on each song.  Some of it worked, some of it needed a mix of two or more people, including myself.   I have always thought it would be interesting if I made an album presented by male  singers and erased myself from that part of the presentation of it.    I researched various cultural styles of music and singing, cultures where women dominated ritual and private ceremonies where men ruled public performance.   But the album took on its own tone and is as much about addiction and humility and disappointment in adulthood as it is about gender.  It is kind in its humanity but maybe brutal in other ways.  I’ll be playing some solo shows in the fall while I finish a film I started a while ago, get in touch if you want a show or just want to say hi.

Might switch to just selling pickles and hot sauce on tour instead.

I’ll personalize these shirts and tapes in some way if you want them.  The shirts are ladies dscn08991small, the tapes are unisex.  $10 Canadian dollars for the shirts, $5 for the cassettes.

I still can’t think of a good album title.

Also planning on other shows here and there so stay tuned!

New stuff/old stuff

November 2, 2015

We’re working on new songs to record this winter, pretty excited and there are a lot of changes.

In the meantime, I thought I’d share some amazing photos from previous tours taken by our fantastic U.K. band mate Anthony Saunders.

Enjoy!

summer – end – show

August 18, 2015

I always mean to write more, this summer was unexpectedly busy.   I played in Chicago in May, Jersey City at WfMU (video to come soon!) in July and the full band will be playing on August 27th at our sometimes rehearsal space at Ratio with Loom and Laughing Eye Weeping Eye.

I have been studying the oud and preparing all the songs I want to record for another album, this time it will not include me singing at all, I have been asking different male musicians instead.   Its not really a statement about me but maybe a statement about music and my relationship to it.   There are times I totally forget about my gender and I do think of myself as a composer, no question.  Somewhere in between those two areas is the next album.
